No Puppies are outside in a kennel, they are in our homes in a puppy playpen. No cages or crates are used! Playpens are 5 by 5 feet, in the shape of a square. (plenty of space for a litter of 4-5 small breed puppies). Playpens are two feet high and made out of metal with *no top or bottom. We put a tarp on the bottom and wrap up the ends and clip them on the ouside of the playpen. Inside the playpen we put woodchips for them to pee and poo on.

Puppies have never peed or pooed on newspapers, floors or carpets, cage or crate trays. Just their woodchips, which by the way is an outdoor smell...helps you house break faster. Newspaper by the way.... will stain your pups feet, coat and your floor when used for house breaking, it also smells bad when peed on. Pee pads are better, but taking your puppy outside alot .... is best.

Here is an example of the playpens we use. As you can see, their playpens are very roomy for playing & romping. We dont suggest you do it like this after you get your puppy. But it is a clean, easy way for breeders to raise a litter of pups in their home.

WE WILL GIVE YOU A SMALL ZIPLOCK BAG OF THESE WOODCHIPS.  DUMP THE BAG IN ONE SPOT IN YOUR YARD. WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR PUPPY OUTSIDE TO GO POTTY HE/SHE WILL SEE & SMELL THE WOODCHIPS & KNOW WHAT THEY ARE OUT THERE TO DO...GO POTTY !!

The most valuable info we could share with you is listed below. A must read for purchase. ! ~ !

TOY BREED PUPPY ~ VERSES ~ BIG BREED PUPPY

WHATS THE DIFFERENCE  ?? ?

When you bring home a new puppy, a Toy Breed puppy only weighs between 1 and 3 pounds at 8-10 weeks of age. Larger breeds will weigh 2-5 times more at the same age. Anything above Toy Breed would avarage 5-15 pounds at 8-10 wks.   Why does this matter so much ???

When puppies move from one environment to another they do things like not eat and drink right away, or maybe a little less for as long as 1-4 days,.... or worse, not at all. It is perfectly natural for a dog/puppy to do this when moved from one home to another, its completely normal. But very dangerous for the puppy that only weighs 1-4 pounds. Larger breed puppies do not suffer dire consquences as fast as the Toy Breed puppies do. Its a weight issue. Its all about weight.

So, while  A *Large Breed puppy may not send you to the vet with low sugar, lethargic weak behavior, a seizure, dehydration, kidney damage or failure, The Toy Breed Puppy you are thinking about buying just may.... if it chooses not to eat or drink when moved from our home to yours.

How common does this happen....

About 1 in 25 will stop eating and drinking all together.

About 86 % puppies will eat and drink just a wee little less over a period of 1-3 days...doing no harm.

About 1 in 10 puppies will not eat or drink enough, but still be eating and drinking on their own...just not enough. This is when you step in with a back-up plan...like the one we have listed below.

How long does it take to dehydrate a Toy Breed puppy ???? 8-16 hrs. Yep thats it !!!  The less it weighs..the faster it happens.

So what can you do ?? There is no guarantee that you can avoid this issue completely... but you can certainly take steps to help your puppy make this environmental change as smoothly as possible without complications. It does require a caring person to do so. If you aren't fond of the idea of helping your new Toy Breed puppy eat manually or are the type to just stand and do nothing about your new non-eating puppy...then you shouldn't be considering a toy breed puppy. Go buy a bigger breed.

1. You must make sure your new puppy eats and drinks 4-8 times per day depending on its weight and stomach size.

2. Make sure your puppy knows where its food and water bowls are and please take the puppy to the bowls several times through out each day.

3. Have a heavy supplement bought and ready to use before your puppy arrives. One that caters to Toy Breeds and environmental change. We do offer you the L-carnitine vitamin which is an additional cost of $11. When its gone you can either order more or buy a different brand of vitamin at your local pet store.

4. Instead of just plain water, add clear (no food coloring) Pedalyte to your pups drinking water. Make it half and half. Use a small bowl and change it every morning. When your container of pedalyte is gone, you do not need to purchase anymore.

5. Use Royal Canin puppy food #33 dry. Depending on your puppy's weight, breed and stomach size you will be putting down between 1/4 cup and a 1/2 cup every morning..it should last the entire day. Monitor how much the puppy is eating. If the puppy eats it all...give it more. Do not mix anything with the dry food.

www.royalcanin.com

6. Wet or soft food which comes in can, tray, and or pouch. Breeders here use Iams puppy in a can, puppy Cesar in the white tray, Beneful in the plastic tupperware dish, Nutro puppy in the can, Mighty dog in the mini can, Michaels all natural in the mini can, and Cycle Natural radiance in the can. When you sign up for your puppy, the operator should tell you what type of wet food your puppy is currently eating. The reason why there are so many types is because we are all located in different areas, some of us in isolated areas and what our stores offer as far as wet food varies. When feeding wet food, it should be 3-4 times per day, a puppy should eat about a teaspoon to a tablespoon at each serving depending on puppy size.... not heaping spoon fulls.

7. Cottage cheese. What a wonderful food for toy breeds. Full of nutrition. Tasty. Most breeders use cottage cheese when breeding. Cottage cheese is sometimes the first meal a young puppy will be offered (around 4 weeks) and its not just for puppies but for the mothers too, before and after birthing. Don't buy fatfree cottage cheese. When feeding Cottage Cheese,  it should be 3-4 times per day, a puppy should eat about a teaspoon to a tablespoon at each serving depending on puppy size.... not heaping spoon fulls.

8. Activia Yogurt...wow what a great invention !!!...a pro-biotic yogurt developed for intestines. Did you know that when humans feel stress and suffer from stress it is in our stomachs that we do so. But in dogs it is in their intestines that they feel and suffer from stress. Via.....ever notice when you bathe, blowdry, travel, go for a long run or walk, visit a vet, and a groomer that you puppy will get a little soft stool after wards. So it would make sense that Activia Yogurt is a very nice weapon to have when a puppy moves from one home to another and is enduring lots of stress whether from environmental change and or from transportation. So, if you get a stubborn puppy that does not want to eat and drink properly those first few days, you can manually feed your new puppy with a syringe. Just suck up the yorgurt with the syringe we give you and put the syringe in the front of your pups mouth, (not the side it will drip or pour out) just squeeze out the yogurt and since its liquid your puppy has no choice but to swallow. Make sure you hold the pup's head in up right position until it swallows it. Yogurt has everything that puppy food has so it can replace a meal if the puppy has missed a meal or has refused to eat. Usually two full syringes of yogurt will replace a meal along with 1/2 syringe of water. Remember that we give you the syringe so you don't need to buy one. If after the first day your new puppy still doesn't want to eat full meals you can also purchase baby food, like chicken and rice or chicken and vegetables, no pasta please. Baby food in a jar, another food replacement that can be manually fed through a syringe. You cannot suck up dry dog food or wet food in a syringe...... So Yogurt and baby food are your best weapons against hypoglycemia when purchasing a new toy breed puppy. Other healthy enticing foods you can give your puppy are...boiled chicken, scrambled eggs, brown rice...no white. Under no circumstances should you stand back and do nothing about your new puppy not eating and drinking enough that first week. You have purchased a toy breed, they cannot skip meals or continuously eat too little over a period of 2 or 3 days.

9. Keep your puppies stress level down. We have listed below a bunch of things that cause puppies stress. Some of these things cannot be avoided, its just part of a new puppies life

10. If you are doing delivery, Toni your delivery driver will check to see if you have these foods. If you are doing pick up, you will have to show a receipt showing the purchase of these items. Also, if you are doing pick-up... you must bring along for your return trip home, a cooler, ice, pedialyte, wet puppy food, Activia Yogurt, cottage cheese, baby food, a blanket, paper towels, a towel and a crate. The breeder will make sure you have all the correct supplies.

HOW BIG IS A TOY BREED PUPPY'S STOMACH

A 1 pound-2.5 pound puppy needs to be fed 6-8 times per day. It's stomach is the size of a golfball, yes that's tiny huh ?. Not only can you NOT fit alot of food in a golfball, but it goes thru the food quickly, about 4 hours. It only takes a 1 pound-2.5 pound puppy to burn thru all of its food's nutrients and energy supply in about 4 hours.

A 2.5 pound - 4 pound puppy should eat about 4-5 times per day. A 2.5 pound - 4 pound puppy will burn thru their food nutrients and energy every 6 hours. A 2.5 pound-4 pound puppy has a lil bigger stomach, the size of a tennis ball.

We do not issue pedialyte to our puppies when on delivery route and also suggest for customers to use the first few days of the pup's new home because of dehydration. We ask you to use it because if your puppy does happen to eat and drink a little less those first 2-4 days. The extra calories, sugar and electrolytes will make up for that little bit that the puppy missed and maybe save you from a trip to the vets office with a case of hypoglaucemia

PUPPY STRESS LIST....ITS REAL !!

IF YOUR PUPPY COULD SPEAK OUR LANGUAGE...THIS IS WHAT THEY WOULD SAY STRESSES THEM OUT WHEN YOUNG AND MOVING OUT INTO THE BIG NEW WORLD. Did you know that when humans feel and have stress it is in our stomach that we suffer. When dogs feel stress it is in their intestines that they suffer.

COMMON OCCURRENCES

Our ratios of common occurrences. These ratios change depending on the season for instance....kennel cough rises in the summer due to air conditioning in vehicles and in our homes. Giardia and coccidia rises when we have more deliveries verses pick-up and during holidays when stress levels are higher for the puppies. The things listed below are normal for anyone who is breeding and transporting puppies.Of course they would be much higher if you were let's say buying from a large kennel or petstore.......We update our ratios due to different times of the year. For instance we deal with kennel cough in the spring and fall more than any other times due to the large difference in night and day tempature's in the spring and fall. So if you see our ratios change we
are alerting you to our common occurrences and their rise and fall at different times of the year.

Kennel cough: 1 out of 20 puppies... above average !!

Uri: 1 out of 60 puppies... excellant !!

Walking dandruff: 1 out of 80 puppies... excellant !!

Earmites: 1 out of 15 puppies... average !!

Coccidda: 1out of 15.... above average !!

Giardia: 1 out of 10... average !!

Below:  very important stuff you should read!~!                            The stuff you are about to read is meant to be educational & informative, So that more puppy buyers are aware that toy breed pups are more common known to deal with more puppy issues than larger breed pups due to lower weight. The issues below are definately part of breeding and raising puppies. Every breeder  carries their own percentages of common occurrences. You will find our groups to have low percentages compared to pet stores and large breeding kennels.... We do not refund for common occurrences.

1...... Kennel cough: Some of our pups will have ~or~ have had ~or~ can still get kennel coug , Also know as uri. There's nothing we can do to prevent or stop this puppy kennel cough. It's sorta similar to preschool for kids until they are immune to their new environment they all share, They will catch preschool colds. Its the same thing with puppies sharing the same area of air space, which they do when we deliver. If you have another dog in your home..... It hardly ever spreads to them. ( Just like preschool cold, your child does not give it to you.) Some vets will treat kennel cough with an antibiotic & some will say... That it will go away on its own in 2-3 weeks. Kennel cough symptoms are the same as a human cold... runny nose, watery eyes, will last 3-5 days. Low grade fever will last about 36 hours. Coughing and hacking last about 1-3 weeks & coughing is the sympton that goes away last. The good news is....Our group only has a low percentage because we are in-home private breeders. Usually pet stores, large kennels, & puppy mills deal with a 70 % percent, that's alot of kennel cough!!! Sometimes after a puppy has been transported kennel cough can take an unexpected turn and turn into an upper respiratory infection, which is worse and we would offer a refund if this be the case. How common is it?...If 100 puppies have kennel cough, about 10 will turn into something worse. That's an honest ratio.

2...... Worms: Most of our pups usually only need one more wormer after arriving at their new home. We worm our pups two-three times before you get your new puppy. Your chosen vet should check for worms before issuing a wormer. Why worm your puppy if it does not have worms!! Remember that once your new puppy goes into new yards, sidewalks, dog parks, salons, vet offices, doggy daycare, and other areas where the pads of other dogs feet walk....You will have to continue to worm your doggy. Maybe twice a year, depending on where your puppy ventures

3....... Ears & Skin: Some of our pups will have ear mites, fleas, or skin dandruff. Its common in kennels, pet stores & puppy mills but more common with small in-home breeders...Why?....Cause they have dog beds & blankets & dogs are going to the bathroom out in a yard....Verses in a cage or on concrete flooring in a kennel, pet store. About 10% of our pups will have this..If you lyme dip your puppy/dog twice a year will will keep everything off your dog skin except fleas. If your puppy has ear mites....You can buy ear mite medicine for $4-$8 at petco, petsmart, walmart, or similar place that sells pet supplies. Lyme dip you can buy on-line or from your vet's office. Toy breed pups that have long coats, hair, or heavy long ears will need to be cleaned often & checked for ear mites, especially if your dog shares a house with cats. Some of the breeders here do have cats. Why can't we treat fleas and ear mites before the pups leave?? Mommy doggy can't have any flea medicine on her while nursing. Pups can't have it on them while the litter is still together in their playpen, playing, chewing, and biting on each others neck area. They must be treated after the litter has separated and gone into their new homes. Please be careful using flea medicines on the back of your puppy's neck. Use the proper weight application. If the application says up to 10 lbs and your pup weighs 3 or 4 pounds... don't use the whole application, use 1/3 instead. If you purchase ear mite meds, shampoos and flea meds, dips from your vets office. You will be paying 4 times more. If you allow them to apply it to your puppy instead of you doing it yourself, you will pay for it... Sometimes a vet wont tell you until you get to the counter to pay. You can buy all these products in a pet store or off line. Things you should have in your home related to doggy care if your choose to own a dog.... ear mite medicine, ear solution & cleanser and also a ear drying powder. All of these things can purchase at your local pet store or off-line pet store . We have on-line pet stores listed on our link page.

4.....Giardia: What is it? Its a protozoan or type of parasite-bacteria that comes from well water, spring water or transport. Its is common when you choose to buy and transport a new puppy. The symptoms are runny or soft stool and sometimes will have drops of blood in their stool. Panacur & or Flagyl-Metrozinole will rid your pup of it. About 20 % of our pups get it. If left untreated for more that a month, It can cause anemia. It is common among everyone who breeds puppies, small or large kennels & small in-home breeders & anyone that transports dogs and puppies. About 70% of adult dogs in the united states carry giardia in their intestines. Giardia wakes up when stress is present. Metro is the best medicine to clear it up and we do not reccommend anything else. Ask a vet for it. It is not expensive. Do not buy a puppy here and have it transported if you think you might get upset about this giardia.. Its common, Its easy to treat.

5....Coccidia: What is it? It is a type of protozoan that comes from stress & is located in the intestines of dogs. It causes diarrhea , & bloody stool. If left untreated , it will also cause vomiting, fever, lethargy, and dehydration. Environmental changes & stress will cause your puppy to get this coccidia protozoan. Cocci wakes up when stress is present. about 20 % of our pups will get coccidia. Pay attention to your pups stool. It can develop immediately or sometimes as much as two weeks after you get your puppy. Clear pedialyte, yogurt, acai juice {pure} will help with the situation if your pup gets it or has it. The medicine that clears up this coccidia is called "Albon". Any vet's office will have it. It is not expensive. after giving Albon to the pup, it's stool will start to clear up immediately. Within days you will see improvement. Coccidia is really no big deal unless it goes unnoticed. It is extremely common in puppies moving from one location to another or being transported. About 90% of toy breed puppies in the United States treated for this by a vet has moved from one home to another. Do not buy a puppy from here and have it transported if you think you might get upset about this Cocci. Its common, Its easy to treat.

6. We have given you this information to be helpful and upfront. Please understand that all breeders deal with these matters at one time or another. if you are the type of buyer that will read this over, buy a puppy and then get upset with us later on about one of these subjects, We would rather you not purchase a puppy from us or from any of the breeders on our site. Or any breeder at all, its not fair to dog breeders.

Sorry, other breeders websites you have been to does not have all this info. It doesn't mean that they do not deal with it, It means they aren't educating you about common occurrences. Usually cause of fear. That you maybe not buy a puppy from them. We have no fear, It doesn't matter if you buy a puppy from us or not. What matters to us is that we educate and be honest about breeding puppies and common occurrences that happen when doing so. There is a good chance that some of you have already purchased a puppy from, elsewhere in the past and have dealt with one of these common occurrences already. Let's hope you didnt reem your breeder for it :)

We offer a 1 yr guarantee on hereditary and genetic health to customers that do not harass us about common occurrence or ask us for a refund for silly things like these common occurrences. We will honor this one year guarantee as long as you do not display any bad or rude behavior towards us and also follow all our requirements listed on page three. So, honorable customers get a one year guarantee on their puppy's health for genetic or hereditary problems that need to be repaired. Refund cannot exceed the cost of the puppy.
